An estimated amount of Rs 2.8 Lakh Crores of surplus-cash is there with Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). The Cash with the PSUs can be used to push the growth of the Economy as the Fiscal Deficit is widening currently.
To make recommendations on this aspect, last year a committee headed by Department of Economic Affairs Additional Secretary, Shaktikanta Das, was constituted to review guidelines on investment of excess funds available with cash-rich central public sector enterprises (CPSEs).
The committee has submitted its report to the Finance Ministry and soon the ministry will notify the new norms as recommended by the committee.
The report suggested that the norms for the PSUs must be changed allowing them to invest the surplus funds in various investment options like Treasury Bills, Mutual Funds, Government Securities, and Term Deposits etc.
The investments can stimulate the growth and more over the investment must be made justly so that the returns are high.
