  • The Land Acquisition Bill was cleared by the Group of Ministers headed by Minister of Agriculture, Sharad Pawar making it mandatory to take consent of 80 percent people whose land is taken for private projects. And in Public-Private Partnerships it is mandatory to obtain the consent of 70 percent of the people whose land will be acquired.

The bill now will be presented to the Cabinet which will take the final decision on the Introduction of the bill. The bill, if passed replaces the outdated British-era Land Acquisition Act, 1894, will introduce the concepts of mandatory rehabilitation and resettlement of those displaced by government acquisitions.
