Saul Perlmutter, Adam Riess, Bryant P. Schimdt won 2011 Physics Nobel prize

  • The Nobel Prize in Physics 2011 was awarded "for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae" with one half to Saul Perlmutter and the other half jointly to Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess.

    The Nobel Prize in Physics was the area Alfred Nobel first mentioned in his will. The Physics prize was being awarded for both pioneering discoveries and ground breaking inventions. 

    The Nobel prize in Physics will be awarded by the Royal Swedish academy of sciences, Stockholm, Sweden.
