Yes, at present scenario there is no specific need to have a Aadhaar except if you want the subsidized amount on your LPG cylinder. As per the Planning minister Mr. Rajeev Shukla it is not mandatory to use services like obtaining passports, opening bank accounts and admissions to schools etc.
So far the government implemented Aadhaar linkage to bank accounts to avail Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) only in 20 districts in the country. Government is planning to launch it in all other parts of the country as well.
According to very recent statistics revealed by the government the total number of Aadhaar enrollments generated was 39.36 crore. Those which are under processing are 42.65 crore.
On total around 1,050 permanent enrollment centers were there in the states where UIDAI process is going on. The govternment is planning to increase the number to 2000 centers by 2014. Recently an enrollment center has been started in the office of Planning Commission.

Let a Law be made so that any data collected for this purpose can be used only by the government for only the purpose for it needs to be utilized and no other purpose and let any person or entity transferring this data to any other person or entity be strictly punished for it, otherwise let this scheme be discarded.
