Retail Inflation down in April to 9.39% as compared to 10.39% in March, says CSO

  • Provisional annual inflation rate based on all India general CPI (Combined) for April 2013 on point to point basis (April 2013 over April 2012) is 9.39% as compared to 10.39% (final) for the previous month of March 2013.

    The Consumer Price Indices (CPI) are released by Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on base 2010=100 for all-India and States/UTs separately for rural, urban and combined every month with effect from January, 2011.

    The General Indices for rural, urban and combined are 128.7, 127.4 and 128.1 respectively. The provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for April 2013 are 9.16% and 9.73% respectively. Inflation rates (final) for rural and urban areas for March 2013 are 10.41% and 10.38% respectively. 

    Price data are collected from selected towns by the Field Operations Division of NSSO and from selected villages by the Department of Posts. Price data are received through web portals being maintained by the National Informatics Centre.
