India to get Japanese Bullet Train Technology for Mum-Ahm High Speed Connection

  • India may use Japanese bullet train technology for a high-speed connection between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, regarding this Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Manmohan Singh will issue a joint statement at a summit later in the day giving details on a feasibility study for the railway.

    The rail-line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad would stretch 500 kilometres (312 miles) at a cost of up to one trillion yen, which the two governments plan to finish technological reviews and costings by March 2014. Japan is also offering a 71 billion yen loan towards the construction of an underground rail network in Mumbai.

    According to Japanese media the two sides may agree on drafting a master plan for new infrastructure in southern India, which could see Japanese know-how used to build a power grid, roads, railways and ports around Bangalore and Chennai.

    Both the countries are having intensified talks in expanding their relations and cooperation in various sectors. Issues like military and security ties are on the floor to stress the commonalities between the two nations.

    The two nations are trying to expand the strategic consultations on issues of mutual interest and envisages to grow collaboration in security, military exercises and defence technology.
