The death penalty Report 2012 released by Amnesty International says although there are some setbacks such as resumption of death sentences in some nations the trend is still more tilted towards ending the death penalties.
The year 2012 saw some countries such as India, Japan, Pakistan and Gambia resuming the death sentences which for some years have not conducted such executions. But still many countries are still restricting these kind of executions and progressing towards their abolition.
According to the report only 21 countries has done such executions in 2012, same as the previous year's number, compared to this a decade back, i.e., in 2003, it was 28. In 2012, a total of 682 executions are carried out world wide which is two more than in 2011. Also amnesty believes thousands of executions are being carried out in China but are kept secret.
The top five executing countries in the world were once again China, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and USA, with Yemen closely behind.
The number of countries imposing death penalty has been fallen from 63 countries in 2011 to 58 countries in 2012.
If this is a good sign to the world what about the growing crimes against in the developing countries like India. How the governments in these countries are going to curb the crimes against women, adolescents, children etc., Are they going to impart fear or impart morals? If so what will they do? Answers for these questions are unknown and unclear at this point of time. Hope every thing goes well and see a better world in the future.
