  • Nobel laureate Ralph SteinmanThe Medicine Nobel laureate for year 2011 Ralph Steinman, 68, who shared the prize with American Bruce Beutler and French scientist Jules Hoffmann, was died on September 30 of pancreatic cancer, according to Rockefeller University.

The Nobel committee member Hansson said that the committee didn't know that he was dead when choosing him as a winner and looking through its regulations. It was unclear whether the prize would be repealed because Nobel statutes don’t allow posthumous awards.

The Canadian Born scientist, Steinman, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discoveries about the immune system.
