Adivasis Received the First UID numbers in the country....
The first batch of a ten people received the UID(aadhaar number), among them Five women and three children, in Tembhli village in Nandurbar, Maharashtra on Wednesday afternoon.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi did the honours, thereby launched officially the UPA's most ambitious project so far – Aadhar, which will give a unique identity to all Indians. This 12-digit number will be a link to all demographic details, bank accounts etc and will help people in accessing government programmes, while at the same time addressing tricky issues such as rigging in elections and the embezzlement of government funds meant for the people.
Four-year-old Hitesh Sonawane became the youngest member to receive the UID card from the Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi also handed the card to Hitesh's mother Ranjana, eight-year-old Anil Thakre, Chalubhai Thakre, Shiva Rattan Wagh, Kantibai Nigure, Bhuri Mai, 14, Devidas Mai, Tarachand and Arman Qureshi in Tembhli.
